About Geochicas

Geochicas is a transinclusive women's group within the OpenStreetMap, OSGeo and broader geospatial and open source communities. They center their work in three pillars:

  • Role of women and gender minorities in community decision-making forums
  • Representation of the needs of women and gender minorities in both community data and the community agenda
  • Participation of women and gender minorities in community activities

This year, Geochicas is celebrating their 10th anniversary during this FOSS4G and also in November during the State of the Map Latam 2026, in Mexico city.

The Geochicas Take! Gathering

The Geochicas Take! gathering has been held in more than 15 cities, across more than 10 countries. This event is a great opportunity to:

  • Connect with women and allies in the geospatial community
  • Share experiences and insights
  • Discuss challenges and opportunities for gender equity in open source geospatial
  • Build solidarity and support networks across borders
  • Celebrate the contributions of women in our field

The first hour of the event is exclusive for women (everyone that self-identifies as a woman) to have a space to reflect and learn amongst each other. After that all genders welcome!

After the hour we hope to see you there, supporting gender equity in the geospatial community.
