Academic Track Overview

The Academic Track provides a forum for researchers and practitioners to present original research and developments in the field of free and open source geospatial software and data. The submission procedure is divided into two mandatory steps for authors to present their work at FOSS4G 2026.

Timeline

Phase: Step 1: Abstract Submission
Deadline: March 2, 2026
Description: Submit 800-1,000 word abstracts for evaluation
Phase: Abstract Review Period
Deadline: March 3 - April 14, 2026
Description: Scientific Committee review process
Phase: Abstract Acceptance Notification
Deadline: April 15, 2026
Description: Authors receive feedback and acceptance status
Phase: Step 2: Full Paper Submission
Deadline: June 15, 2026
Description: Submit extended papers (max 8 pages) if abstract accepted

Submission Process Overview

Step 1: Abstract Submission

  • Submit abstracts in English (800-1,000 words)

Step 2: Full Paper Submission

  • Required only if abstract is accepted
  • Maximum 8 pages using ISPRS template
  • Must include original and unpublished research
  • Papers checked for template conformance and plagiarism
